Multiple People Shot at Howe Community Park – Unauthorized Event Descends into Chaos





Late Saturday evening, an unsanctioned event of a large crowd at Howe Community Park in Sacramento in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade neighborhood erupted in gunfire when 20 to 25 rounds echoed through the area as law enforcement officers were in the process of removing people from the park.

How It Unfolded

At around 6:30 PM on April 18, the SCSO received calls about subjects possibly armed with concealed weapons at the Arden-Arcade park. A second caller described a possible physical altercation and individuals fleeing the scene.

Law enforcement air support was dispatched and surveyed the area from above but could not find an active fight.

Despite this, several hundred people had gathered at the park for what deputies referred to as an unapproved assembly. Law enforcement personnel encircled the park, switched on their vehicle lights, and took about 15 minutes commanding the crowd to clear out using public address systems.

As officers worked to clear the park, upwards of 20 gunshots filled the night air — causing hundreds to flee in all directions at once.

Victims of the Shooting

Four gunshot victims — a woman and three men, all in their 20s — were taken to nearby hospitals. Two victims had injuries classified as immediate, one was classified with moderate injuries, and one was treated for minor injuries. All four were reported in stable condition. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department provided medical assistance on scene.

The Investigation Scene

The shooting was centered on the Cottage Way side side of the park alongside the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. The Home Depot store was locked check here down for a period of time.
